Bet ya didn't see this coming -- it's my first attempt at digital coloring. Yeah, I'm aware that it doesn't look quite finished, but it's more or a less a teaser of things to come. I'm really excited that I've FINALLY entered a new color medium that's ultimately going to lead to limitless possibilities (or whatever my knowledge can get crammed in that lil' brain of mind.)
If anyone knows of some awesome digitial coloring tutorials (mainly for beginners like myself), please feel free to toss some links my way.
The bush just seems... extremely out of place >< Like you wanted to cut the picture short and just stuffed a bush in front.
The coloring you seem to have gotten down, just start adding more depth to the picture with a lot of tones and shades all overlapping. I unfortunately don't know of any tutorials, but I guess I shall be on the lookout for you
Heh, I'm sorry you feel that way... the placement of the bush doesn't really bother me.
While I don't normally plan on giving explanations for my work, the bush was a bit of an afterthought following a discussion the other day with Cloudpiercer, who in fact, came up with the line: "Rose in a bush".
As for the colors, I specifically wrote it was a work in progress (which reminds me, it should be in my scraps).

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
This newsletter was "born" back in March 2007, from a conversation between ~Lareth and =FrozenStarRo, who with the help of their friends *Iardacil and *Sylwiaa , wanted to make something to promote known and unknown photomanipulators alike here on DeviantArt. As of September 2009 =ImaginaryRosse joined the project and will be helping us out with the weekly choices. While things have changed over time, the essence of the newsletter is still the same.
